Inpatient Pediatrics

Northern Light is home to the largest pediatric care center in central, eastern, and northern Maine. There are 24 beds on the pediatric floor, including a dedicated pediatric intensive care unit, and 23 pediatric specialists, caring for more than 45,000 children annually. We work directly with the pediatric hospitalists to care for the smallest patients in the hospital, both on the floor and in the pediatric intensive care unit. Specialists are readily available and are enthusiastic teachers and mentors. Residents are engaged in the admission of patients to the PICU and benefit from learning about the initial presentation of critically ill children as well as initial evaluation and management strategies. The daily census of the pediatric service includes those children admitted to the floor.
