Curriculum
Northern Light EMMC Family Medicine Residency Curriculum
The focus of the Northern Light EMMC Family Medicine Residency Program is to train residents to practice in rural settings. To accomplish this, the curriculum is designed to address specific aspects of medical care in rural populations.
In addition to the required rotations, residents are responsible for outpatient and inpatient care of their family practice center patients. We offer several elective opportunities, as our program is the only residency in our tertiary care facility serving the Northern two-thirds of our rural state. Our faculty have a wide range of expertise in a variety of areas to provide teaching and consultation on all patients.
Residents are encouraged to establish links within the community, and they can do so by participating in home care, nursing home visits, and community outreach with the support of faculty are encouraged.
Regularly scheduled hospital conferences and journal clubs presenting a variety of topics, are sponsored by the following departments: obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, and family practice. Specialty rounds on inpatient services allow opportunity to discuss cases with radiologists and infectious disease physicians. Weekly half-day didactics are held by the Residency to address a broad range of medical and behavioral medicine issues.
