How to Become a Volunteer
If you are 18 years or older and interested in becoming a volunteer at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, there are a few steps we need you to complete first.
Note: For those under 18, please view our High School Student Volunteer section for information on how you can get involved.
1. Fill out and application online or print and fill out an application - You can also contact us at 207-973-6806 to receive an application packet with a postage-paid envelope.
Please note that it will take 3-5 business days to process your application.
2. Complete our Volunteer Orientation - Once we have received your application, we will email you with a link to view our online orientation, along with all the necessary paperwork to complete.
3. Personal Interview - At your personal interview, we will discuss your interests, goals, skills and availability. Together, we will match you with available positions that interest you. Some select positions may require a second interview. The personal interview takes on average one hour of your time and will take place in the Volunteer Services office.
4. Health Screening - All volunteers (and employees alike!) are required to complete a health screening, submitting to the following screenings with no charge to the volunteer:
- The tuberculosis (TB) screening may require three visits to the Medical Center to complete. Most TB screenings result in a normal reading; however, if the TB screen is abnormal, or if the volunteer is unable to have a TB skin test, a chest x-ray will be required.
- Proof of immunizations against mumps, measles, chicken pox, and rubella as well as the COVID-19 and annual flu vaccines are required. If the volunteer does not have proof, a titer will be drawn to verify immunity status. If the blood test indicates that you are not immune to any of these diseases, the medical center will offer the immunization free of charge.
5. Background Check - All volunteers will also be expected to complete a background check at no charge.
