In 1996, Mercy Hospital developed the first lymphedema treatment center in Northern New England. Today, our work remains on the leading edge of treatment as one of the few unique practices whose occupational/physical therapists exclusively treat lymphedema and related conditions. Our certified lymphedema therapists (CLT’s) are dedicated to excellence in the treatment of all forms of lymphedema and have additional specialty training in head and neck lymphedema and breast cancer rehabilitation.
We focus on educating individuals about their condition as well as methods to improve and manage their symptoms. Our practice specializes in Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), a recognized best practice for the treatment of lymphedema. CDT is a protocol of therapeutic interventions designed to treat symptoms through an intensive phase, followed by a second phase in which individuals manage their symptoms using protocols to address their specific long term needs. In addition to CLT certification, our staff has earned advanced credentials granted by the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA).
