Rotations and Electives

PGY-1

  • Three (3) Months of Family Practice at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center
  • One (1) Month of outpatient Internal Medicine at Husson Internal Medicine
  • Two (2) Months of Neurology at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center
  • Two (2) Months of Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry at Northern Light Acadia Hospital
  • Four (4) Months of Inpatient Psychiatry on the Adult unit at Northern Light Acadia Hospital
  • Didactic Day: PGY-1 Trainees will participate in didactics offered by the Northern Light Family Medicine Program as well as a half-day of didactics with the other Psychiatry Residents at Northern Light Acadia Hospital during the 5 months on inpatient services at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. For the other 7 months of programming in their PGY-1 year, the Trainees will participate in full-day didactics on Thursdays at Northern Light Acadia Hospital.   All PGY-1 Residents will receive basic lectures on core psychiatric knowledge and practice as well as other subjects.

PGY-2

  • Four (4) Months of Inpatient Psychiatry on the Adult unit at Northern Light Acadia Hospital
  • One (1) Month of Inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Northern Light Acadia Hospital
  • Two (2) Months of Emergency Psychiatry at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center
  • Three (3) Months of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center
  • Two (2) months of Neuromodulation at Northern Light Acadia Hospital (includes ECT and Ketamine Clinic as well as TMS one day per week at a Faculty member’s private practice)
  • Didactic Day: PGY-2 Trainees will have Didactic Day every Thursday which will include formal lectures, seminars, wellness, journal club, as well as time to work on projects or study.

PGY-3

  • Residents will spend their 3rd year in Resident Continuity Clinic at Northern Light Acadia Hospital. While all this work is outpatient focused, the week is structured such that 50% of the patient work will be the assessment and medication management of adult psychiatric patients, 25% will be geriatric psychiatry patients, 20% will be addiction medicine patients, with the remaining 5% being the Residents’ therapy patients or Child and Adolescent patients.
  • Didactic Day:  PGY-3 Trainees will have Didactic Day every Thursday which will include formal lectures, seminars, wellness, journal club, as well as time to work on projects or study.

PGY-4

  • Three (3) months Resident Bridge Clinic at Northern Light Acadia Hospital. This is a rapid-access, wrap-around clinic model focused on the short-term assessment and stabilization of outpatient psychiatric patients. • 3 months of outpatient community Mental Health at Community Health and Counseling Services • 3 months of cross-cultural psychiatry at the Penobscot Indian Health Service • 3 months of elective time which can include more advanced clinical work on any of our services, work with any number of potential community partners, and/or research activities.
  • Didactic Day: PGY-4 Trainees will have Didactic Day every Thursday which will include formal lectures, seminars, wellness, journal club, as well as time to work on projects or study.
