DEI
Our Culture of Caring and organizational values of respect and compassion foster a sense of belonging that is integral to the mission of Northern Light Health. Our ability to demonstrate caring and empathy to those we are entrusted to treat enables the patient to not only accept the clinical interventions being offered but has a
direct effect on the potential effectiveness of the treatment. The most important barrier to the doctor-patient relationship involves the physician’s attitudes, judgments, and biases. Therefore our psychiatric training at Northern Light Acadia Hospital emphasizes an understanding of oneself as a precursor to being able to guide a suffering human being to a healthier or more peaceful place.
For these reasons, building a curriculum rich in training in the areas of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion has been a priority for the faculty of the Psychiatry Residency at Northern Light Acadia Hospital. These efforts are fully in-line with DEI initiatives to render the best care to our diverse patient population across Northern Light Health. Our aims are to build tools of self-reflection, strengthen the skills needed to understand our patients’ distress in the context of their own experiences, and overall, help create better doctors and better citizens.
At Northern Light Health, we pride ourselves in fostering a culture of caring which starts by caring for one another in our community.
Our 2022 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report celebrates the colleagues who are supporting diversity through simple but meaningful actions and allyship to show caring and support for one another!
