You choose your birthing experience at Northern Light Inland Hospital. We encourage you to listen to your body and be as active as you want to be during labor — you can take a walk, or relax in a private whirlpool bath, which can help improve circulation for you and your baby. Massage, therapeutic touch, and visualization techniques are also encouraged. Additionally, you can eat when you’d like to from the scrumptious choices on our room service menu.

It’s up to you to decide how much (or how little) pain medication you want during labor. Should you decide you want an epidural for pain relief, a highly trained Inland Hospital anesthesiologist is available to help — no matter what time of day or night.

Breast milk is the perfect first food for your baby according to the Academy of Pediatrics which recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, through a child's first birthday and beyond — as long as you and baby desire.

One-on-one support is available to moms while in the hospital and after they go home. Our lactation consultant has a wealth of knowledge about breastfeeding and give new moms the confidence and personal attention they need to get off to a great start. She is pleased to educate families on how to support breastfeeding as a choice.

A breastfeeding support group meets every Friday at 1 pm at The Birthing Center at Northern Light Inland Hospital. Open to the public, no registration is necessary and babies, of course, are welcome.

We also recognize that breastfeeding is not right for every new mom, and we are dedicated to providing the best start possible for you and your baby. Formula is provided for those moms who choose not to breast feed.

For more information, call us at 207-861-3100 or toll free at 800-967-0087 or email us at inlandhospital@northernlight.org

Did you know one in seven mothers feels sad and irritable during pregnancy or postpartum (after delivery), and fathers can feel down and anxious too? We care about your well-being so we created the Tree of HOPE Support Group at Inland for postpartum mood disorders.

Postpartum depression, one type of a postpartum mood disorder, is more than just "baby blues" — it's a serious condition that mothers can experience after childbirth, typically arising from the combination of hormonal changes, the psychological transition to motherhood, and fatigue.

Need someone to talk to? You may call or text a Postpartum Support International (PSI) Coordinator who is available to offer caring and informed support and resources.

We also offer a free support group every week. The group is open to the public and no sign-up is necessary. Whether you are currently pregnant or postpartum, we welcome you to come join us. We meet in the Medical Arts Building Conference Room (to the left of Inland's front entrance) at 180 Kennedy Memorial Drive in Waterville.

  • Tuesdays, 10 am - Noon

  • Watch for special Saturday meeting events throughout the year.

If you would like more information, please contact Bridgette Gemelli at 207-861-6091 or email her at bgemelli@northernlight.org.
