Healthcare is only one way she cares for the community

Date: 03/05/2024

Our healthcare staff is dedicated to caring for patients inside and outside the hospital. We’d like to shine a light on Kellie Huard, an occupational therapist at Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital, and how she and her family go above and beyond to impact the health of our commIMG_1996-2.jpgunity.

Kellie has been caring for patients in the hospital’s Rehabilitation department in Pittsfield for 26 years. Outside of healthcare, Kellie has been involved in martial arts for 33 years; she has a black belt in jujitsu and karate and is eager to help others learn the benefits of martial arts.

“It’s always been a place that I can go to focus and not think about any of my troubles. I appreciate what martial arts has taught me in values such as kindness, loyalty, manners, discipline,” says Kellie. “I believe these skills are some of the most important skills that have helped me in my personal and professional life. I’ve even incorporated elements of martial arts into staff safety training at the hospital and also when working with pediatric occupational therapy patients to help them gain more self-control and emotional regulation.”

Kellie enjoys joining others to train, exercise, and connect with a shared passion for karate and jujitsu.

IMG_2062.jpgRecently Kellie led a self-defense class for girls and women, a class that she has taught and participated in for many years. “My goal is to help empower and instill confidence in others to care for themselves. I want to make this world a better place to live in.”

Thank you, Kellie, for making a difference in the lives of the people in our region!
