Navy Reserve to Commission Eastern Maine Medical Center Physician

Date: 10/20/2023

Bangor, Maine (October 17, 2023) — Jared Darlian, DO, a resident physician at Northern Light Family Medicine and Residency and decorated Navy Reservist, will be commissioned as an officer in the US Navy Reserve on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Born in Central New York, Dr. Darlian’s medical career began in the wake of personal tragedy. “My journey into medicine started in 2012 when my mother died of cancer. I wanted to prevent others from experiencing that pain,” he says. With degrees from Utica University, the University of Connecticut, and Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, Darlian possesses an exemplary academic and professional background.

From 2011-2020, Dr. Darlian served in the Navy Reserve Medical Service Corps, a role that brought him to diverse locales from Afghanistan to Japan. His outstanding contributions have garnered several awards, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

The upcoming commissioning ceremony represents more than a mere event for Dr. Darlian. “It signifies a long path to return to public service, representing more than a decade of planning,” he says, adding that the ceremony's location holds immense personal significance. “Having it at the medical center with the support of my residency leadership, and the community is both humbling and incredibly meaningful.”

On blending his roles as a physician and commissioned officer, he notes, “Physicians and officers are both leaders. I’m propelled forward to be a leader for both my profession and my patients. We all got into this profession to help people. I choose to serve because that is how I want to give back.”
