Masterson Nursing Scholarship

Robert Masterson, BSN, CCRN
For Robert Masterson, BSN, CCRN, nursing was more than a career or profession; it was truly a passion. Bob earned his BSN from the University of San Francisco and was a critical care nurse at Mercy Hospital for 30 years.

His love for nursing, compassion for patients, and commitment to learning were evident to everyone around him. Bob served as a preceptor to many and was known for calmly and confidently guiding others through difficult clinical situations. He led by example and embodied Mercy’s “at the heart of healing” mission in the daily care he provided his patients, the support he gave their families and loved ones, and the mentoring he provided to coworkers. Everyone who worked with him felt privileged and inspired to be a better person and care giver.

Bob retired from Mercy Hospital in January 2013 and passed away from pancreatic cancer just one month later. The Robert Masterson Nursing Scholarship was established in 2013 to honor him by providing financial assistance to nursing students.

Each year, two $2,500 scholarships are provided to two senior nursing school students attending a 4-year BSN program at a Maine college or university.  Please complete the application below and submit to agbarfield@northernlight.org with subject line “Masterson Scholarship Application Submission” to be considered. The deadline for applications is March 15. Awardees will be notified by May 15
