There’s a good chance you are biophilia positive (which most people are) if you remember at least one tree from your childhood. But don’t worry; while biophilia sounds like something you wouldn’t want, it’s actually just the human need to connect with nature. Given that just walking outside can get our cortisol and stress levels to drop, it makes total sense that we would want this connection.
Opposite of phobias which are fears, philias are attractions. Of the two, biophilia is definitely the one you want since just taking a breath of fresh air is a wellbeing enhancer. Therefore, this Wellness Wednesday, challenge yourself to:
· Engage in a little ecotherapy by taking a walk outside or looking at a plant or doing anything else that puts you in contact with nature, and
· Dredge up the name of a favorite tree from your childhood to measure how deeply rooted nature goes with you. I have the worst memory in the world, but I’ve never forgotten the plum tree in our front yard and the very curious Catalpa tree I once walked by in third grade.
