John B. Wahlig, Jr., MD

Dr. Wahlig received his undergraduate degree from Yale University in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry and earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. On completion of a seven-year residency in neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, he practiced on Long Island as a member of South Shore Brain & Spine Specialists, and later as an attending surgeon at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York.

Prior to practicing at Mercy, Dr. Wahlig was as a general neurological surgeon at the Maine Medical Center Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Wahlig has a particular interest in traumatic, metastatic, and degenerative spine pathology and has received specialized training in complex spine and minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Wahlig is active in several professional societies and has authored numerous papers published in various scientific journals.
