Sebasticook Valley Hospital partners with local school for Sticker Shock event
Date: 06/07/2024

‘If they can’t buy it, don’t supply it!’ was part of the sticker message the Maine Central Institute (MCI) girls’ softball team placed on alcohol packaging May 21 as part of a Sticker Shock event coordinated by Marissa Murray, Community Health coordinator at Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital, with the Pittsfield Police for HealthySV, a community partnership to create healthy communities. The Sticker Shock program is designed to reduce underage access to alcohol. The program aims to reach adults of legal age who might purchase alcohol for minors by placing stickers, which state fines and charges if caught, on alcohol. This event was made possible through the STOP (Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking) grant. The event took place at Danforth’s Down Home Supermarket in Pittsfield. Pittsfield Police Officer Erica Rock, who is also the girls’ softball coach, was present as required by law as minors are not allowed to physically handle alcohol. Great job, MCI girls’ softball team, for being advocates!
