Registration is open for 30th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

Date: 09/19/2024

Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital will be hosting its 30th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Saturday, October 19. The event is open to all ages and will start at MCI’s Wright Gymnasium in Pittsfield. Participants may join a team or register as individuals and are encouraged to help raise funds by collecting pledges for their walk. Businesses are invited to organize company teams and challenge other businesses. Proceeds from the walk will support mammograms and enhance care provided at Northern Light Women’s Health in Pittsfield.

Jen Castonguay, director of Imaging at Sebasticook Valley Hospital, says, “Over the years we have had many stories of patients who would not have had their mammogram if not for this walk. We have diagnosed breast cancer in some of these women who had a good prognosis due to early detection. I will never forget how I felt when a walker told one of our techs that we contributed to saving her mother’s life – she would not have had her mammogram and detected her asymptomatic breast cancer that was able to be treated early. That is why we continue to raise funds and awareness for this cause.” Castonguay adds, “Screening mammograms can now be scheduled by patients through a new online scheduling system on the Hospital’s website (northernlighthealth.org/Sebasticook). This allows patients to book an appointment at their convenience. We also offer walk-in options Monday – Friday 8 am-2 pm.”

Registration for the Walk is $20 and can be completed online at northernlighthealth.org/SVHWalk. Registration and fundraising pledge forms are available online or at the Women’s Health Center attached to the Hospital. Participants who attend the community walk on October 19 will receive a fun gift as a special thank you.
