30th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk a Success!

Date: 10/22/2024

Family, friends, and coworkers came together in Pittsfield for Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital’s 30th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. Teams and individuals walked to support or remember those who have been affected by breast cancer and helped raise more than $10,000 for mammograms and breast health care services! Screening mammograms are the best at detecting early breast cancer. Watch the WABI recap here.

Almy’s Angels, a team of employees from CM Almy, a Pittsfield company, and long-time supporter of this fundraiser, raised the most funds again this year, winning the 30th Breast Cancer Awareness Walk trophy. One of their team members shared they raised funds all year through silent auctions, bake sales, yard sales, etc. and said it really was a community effort because they would not be able raise the funds without community support and expressed their thanks to the community. Nicole Schissler was the top individual fundraiser and won a homemade breast cancer awareness themed quilt.

Jen Castonguay, director of Ancillary Services and walk organizer noted, “It was a beautiful day to see and hear so many participants come out to honor loved ones, support family members, and raise awareness of the importance of mammograms. In the past 15 years, funds raised from this walk has helped more than 1000 women receive life-saving mammograms, and we are proud of this fact and will continue to do this walk because we know it’s saving lives.”

Several teams participated: Almay Angels, Breast Friends, Bosom Buddies, Nana’s Bunch, Grammie’s Hood Rats, The B+s, and Terry’s Dream Team. All participants received a gift for registering.
