Breast Cancer Awareness Walk Goes Virtual for 2020
Registration is now open for the Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, a longtime local tradition that is being reimagined as a virtual event for 2020. This year, community members are encouraged to complete their walk when and where they choose, anytime during the month of October.
“While we’ll miss gathering in person this year, the virtual format makes it easier than ever for individuals and families to get involved,” says Terri Vieira, MHA, FACHE, president, Sebasticook Valley Hospital. “Whether it’s a walk in the neighborhood or something more adventurous, every step taken will make a difference right here in our communities.”
The goals of the walk are twofold: to increase awareness of the importance of mammograms, and to raise money to support breast health services at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. Money raised through the virtual walk will fund mammograms for those who cannot afford to pay and other patient care needs.
Walkers are invited to post photos or videos of their walk on social media with the hashtag #SVHBreastWalk. Participants will receive a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk cloth face covering as a gift for registering.
“We hope that participants will wear their Breast Cancer Awareness Walk face coverings with pride knowing that they’re supporting early detection and high-quality care for our patients,” adds Vieira. “We’re so thankful for the community’s support.”
There is no minimum or maximum length for the walk.
Walkers are encouraged to reach out to friends, family members, and others who may be passionate about the cause to sponsor their virtual walk. Participants may submit their donations online or record them on a paper pledge form.
