The Daisy Award
The DAISY Award (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurse's every day.
Northern Light Mercy Hospital is proud to be the first state of Maine Daisy Award Hospital Partner, recognizing one of our nurses with this special honor three times a year. This nurse's clinical skill and especially their compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role mode. They consistently meets the mission and values of Northern Light Mercy Hospital.
The Daisy Foundation
The not-for-profit Daisy Foundation was established in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. During Patrick's eight week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided not only to Patrick but to everyone in his family. So one of the goals they set in creating a foundation in Patrick's memory was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do everyday.
