Northern Light Blue Hill and Maine Coast Hospitals encourage women to schedule screening mammograms

Prevention and detection saves lives and Northern Light Blue Hill and Maine Coast Hospitals are reminding women who are overdue to schedule a screening mammogram. Both hospitals offer 3D mammography technology and have plenty of appointments available.

During the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness month, care teams in Blue Hill and Ellsworth are focused on community outreach. “We are calling our patients who we know are due for screening – and helping them to schedule an appointment on the spot,” shares OB/GYN Barbara Mercado, MD. Dr. Mercado, a breast cancer survivor herself, who knows first-hand the importance of screening and early detection. “Screening mammograms are incredibly effective – and allow us to provide early intervention when necessary.”

For women looking to schedule on their own, there’s a self-schedule tool for screening mammograms on the Northern Light Health website. It takes just a few minutes to schedule online at NorthernLightHealth.org/ScheduleAMammogram. Appointments are available at a variety of times, just a few days out and for those who can’t make it in during the week, Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth has added Saturday options this month. Financial counselors are available to discuss financial assistance programs and scholarships.
