Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital launches the Building on a Promise

(Ellsworth, Maine – August 5, 2021) – Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital announces Building on a Promise, the campaign to renovate and refresh key inpatient spaces at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital. The campaign kicks off today with a special commitment from longtime hospital supporter Edith Dixon, who is challenging the community to donate and pledge a total of $1 million by December 31, 2022. Mrs. Dixon will match campaign gifts dollar-for-dollar up to the million-dollar milestone.

“The Dixon Challenge is an incredible way to begin the campaign to modernize Maine Coast Hospital,” says John Ronan, FACHE, president, Maine Coast Hospital. “For decades, the Dixon Family has been a true partner in our hospital’s success. Their investment in our region’s healthcare has been unmatched, and their generosity continues to touch lives in our communities every day.”

Every gift and pledge made to the Challenge will support Maine Coast’s modernization. The $4.5 million project will include an all new spacious, family-focused birthing center with modern amenities, close proximity to the operating room when emergency C-sections are needed, and a centralized parent and infant monitoring system. The project also includes renovations to patient rooms, increasing the availability of private rooms and improving patient and family comfort and privacy.

The project will be funded by campaign donations and support from Northern Light Health.

“I am supporting this campaign because I believe the project to modernize the hospital is incredibly important to our region,” says Mrs. Dixon. “This is our moment to come together to ensure the brightest possible future for our community hospital. I encourage every person who relies on this hospital to join me.” Mrs. Dixon is serving as honorary chair of the Building on a Promise Campaign.
