Dementia is a frequent symptom of Alzheimer’s disease and requires a high degree of personalized adaptation so that each resident has the highest degree of meaningful interaction with staff and family.

Our inclusive family care development meetings ensure that Alzheimer’s care and dementia care activities are tailored to the individual so that connections to past, present and future are maintained and encouraged. Our licensed and certified staff provide 24-hour care which is supported by our in-house social and mental health services. We’ve been nationally recognized for our lack of antipsychotic medication use as well as our focus on the environment of care utilizing the latest technologies like robotic babies, music and memory, and using live chickens, goats, cats, and dogs.

The socialization and life enrichment activities are key to an exciting quality of life here – and it’s what sets us apart from other continuing care centers in Maine. Lakewood is a “pet friendly” environment with on-site beautician, barber shop, and non-denominational chaplaincy guaranteeing that services directly tied to dignity are all nearby and safely accessible.
