Ellsworth Business Community Supports Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Date: 10/18/2018

Ellsworth, Maine (October 18, 2018) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital is especially grateful of the special events and programs that our friendly local businesses are promoting to raise funds for the Mary Dow Center and Breast Clinic.
Stanley Subaru is once again supporting local cancer patients with Test Drives for the Cure. For every test drive taken in October, Stanley Subaru will donate $10 to caring for patients of the Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care and the Breast Clinic, both departments of Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth. No purchase is necessary, and the money will be donated in the test-driver’s name. This program has been running since 2009, directly benefits local cancer patients, and has raised over $15,000 for patient care in Hancock County.
Mark Politte, owner of Stanley Subaru, started the program, because “cancer is something that touches all of us at some point.  We’re proud to partner with Maine Coast Hospital to make mammograms affordable, accessible, and available to those who need them.”
Once again, Momo’s Cheesecake will donate 10% of the sales from their honor system/home location at 471 Main Street in Ellsworth during the month of October to the Mary Dow Center and the Breast Clinic.  “We love to support our community by giving back on a regular basis. The Mary Dow Cancer Center has helped so many people in this community and we know some of them personally,” explains owner Brenda Ledezma. “We’re grateful to the center and all of those they help there.”
Crossfit Acadia on the Bucksport Road in Ellsworth is sponsoring a Mammogram Mixer, a partner competition, on Saturday, October 13, their third annual fundraiser to benefit the Mary Dow Center and the Breast Clinic for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Throughout the year, Chuck and Belinda Lawrence’s Tradewinds Variety on State Street in Ellsworth, donates one cent for every gallon of gas purchased to the Mary Dow Center from their “Pumped up to Fight Cancer” campaign.  Tradewinds Variety has been giving since the opening of that facility in 2016
“Everyone needs to have access to early cancer screening and treatment, and Stanley Subaru, Momo’s Cheesecake, Tradewinds Variety, and Crossfit Acadia are all helping to ensure that all in our community have access to the care they need,” says Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital Foundation philanthropy officer JoAnn Brown.
