Meet Maine-Made Miracles

Alisa

In 2012, Alisa and her family were involved in a horrible car accident in Bangor. This courageous young lady is the only person in her family’s SUV who remembers the accident and the moments following. Shaken and in shock, she remembers crawling out of the SUV, and pulling glass from her hair before being taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center where she underwent emergency surgery. Following her surgery, she and her mom recovered together on the Pediatrics Unit.

Alisa, a Children’s Miracle Network Champion Child, is now a happy and healthy teenager who loves to dance.

Ellie

Ellie was four when her pre-K teacher noticed that one of her eyes had a slight droop. After seeing a Northern Light Pediatric Primary Care pediatrician and an eye specialist, Ellie and her family’s lives were forever changed - Ellie was diagnosed with orbital rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancerous eye tumor.

Ellie may have lost her hair, missed some school, and endured six months of chemotherapy, but she never lost her smile and her will to fight. And, six months after hearing those scary words, after successful treatment at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, her parents were given the best news – no evidence of disease.

Today, Ellie is a happy and healthy nine-year-old with a bright smile and a twinkle in her eyes.

Noah

Noah represented many firsts for his family but learning how to handle a serious illness in a three-week-old baby was a first his mom and dad didn’t expect to learn.

As an infant, Noah was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, and he spent several days at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. His mom and dad credit doctors there with saving their young son’s life. And, thanks to the medical equipment available because of funds raised locally by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Noah stayed close to home for care, with his mom and dad by his side.

Today, this Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion Child collects nickels at his school and in the community so other sick kids can get the care they need.
