Rain or Shine, the Umbrellas Are Back in Downtown Bangor!

The Umbrella Sky Project is back in Downtown Bangor — and we invite you to celebrate with us beneath our own vibrant piece of this world-renowned art installation inspired by Mary Poppins.

This marks the third year that Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and the Downtown Bangor Partnership have collaborated to bring whimsy, exuberance, and energy — and maybe a little bit of protection from the rain — to Bangor’s Cross Street, the corridor between Main Street and Columbia Street.

To celebrate the annual opening of the umbrellas, all are invited to a Night Under the Umbrella Sky on Friday, June 6, from 5 to 7 PM for a free, family-friendly event that brings the community together under a colorful canopy. Enjoy music, giveaways, and the magic of dozens of umbrellas swaying perfectly above your head as bubbles float through the air. It’s fun for all ages! Mark your calendar and bring your family and friends to this spectacular event hosted by Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.

“We believe in fostering a strong sense of connection and engagement within our community. The Umbrella Sky installation is a stunning and colorful representation of the unity and support we share, rain or shine,” commented Ava Collins, MHA, FACHE, President of Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. “We hope everyone enjoys this beautiful display and joins us on June 6 from 5–7 PM under the umbrellas on Cross Street.”

The Umbrella Sky on Cross Street has become a beloved spot for travelers and locals alike to pause, rest on the umbrella-shaped benches, and enjoy the flowers in their umbrella planters. A favorite photo stop, visitors are encouraged to share their experience using #HowAreYouBangor and #UmbrellaSky, and tagging @northernlighthealth and @downtownbangor on social media.

This seasonal installation will be on view through mid-October.
