Collaborating with Hannaford to Support Food Access for Patients in Need

Date: 02/20/2025

Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and Hannaford Supermarkets are teaming up to stock the Community Cupboard, a food pantry located on the medical center’s State Street Campus. Hannaford has contributed $10,000 to Eastern Maine Medical Center, in the form of gift cards, to purchase nutritious food that aligns with the health needs in the community.

To celebrate the collaboration, Hannaford associates will visit the medical center on Tuesday, February 25 to help coordinate the food delivery and stock the pantry shelves. Hannaford is also working with the Community Cupboard team to restructure the pantry with designations for various health needs and dietary restrictions.

“At Hannaford, we believe access to fresh, nutritious food is a critical component to ensuring the overall health of our families and our community,” says Eric Strout, store manager of the Airport Mall Hannaford in Bangor. “We are proud to partner with Eastern Maine Medical Center to break down barriers individuals face to getting the healthy food their bodies and minds need.”

About the Community Cupboard
The Community Cupboard has served more than 3,000 individuals since opening in April 2024. Employees have access to the space 24/7 to provide a bag of food for anyone in need, an effort that helps the medical center meet its mission of caring for the community by supporting neighbors living with food insecurity.

Members of the media are invited to capture the story on Tuesday, February 25 at 1 pm by speaking to representatives from both organizations, seeing the food delivery and stocking of the shelves, as well as touring the Community Cupboard.
