Obstetrics Safe Care Recertification

Date: 10/03/2022

Baby-Feet-Parent-Hands-website.jpgIn September, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center received a validation recertificate for five years in a row of Safe Care: Obstetrics. This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our obstetrics providers and nurses, who continuously work to improve patient safety and maintain excellent team communication.

This is an intense process that requires continuing education courses, annual Electronic Fetal Monitoring education, and use of National Institute of Child Health and Human Development terminology. It ensures a commitment to patient safety by making sure all charting terminology and documentation is consistent with nationwide standards. Each year requires more training for labor and delivery providers and nurses.

Mikele Neal, BSN, RN, associate vice president, Patient Care Services and Women’s and Children’s Services, says, “The Safe Care project team would like to recognize our nursing staff and providers in Labor and Delivery and Obstetrics, and Northern Light Family Medicine and Residency providers for their commitment to best practice policy, procedure, and documentation. Our teams worked seamlessly together to make this recertification possible.”
