Mammogram scheduling made easy

Date: 10/27/2022

Breast-cancer-awareness-month-media-release.jpgBreast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, and when detected early, 98% of patients survive. That’s why staying up to date on annual screening mammograms after the age of 40 is so important, because breast cancer can be detected in a mammogram up to three years before patients can feel any changes.

Scheduling a mammogram at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is easier than ever with online scheduling at your convenience. This means no phone calls or order needed from a doctor. To schedule an online annual breast cancer screening, visit
NorthernLightHealth.org/ScheduleaMammogram. Individuals do not need to be a patient portal user to use online scheduling. For MyNorthernLightHealth users, log into the patient portal, select the most convenient location, click the “Schedule Appointment” Button, and complete the online form.

Screening mammograms are suitable for regular check-ups and are not the same test as a diagnostic mammogram. If a patient needs a diagnostic mammogram, has a history of breast cancer, or has breast implants, they should speak with their primary care provider before scheduling a breast cancer screening.

During October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, talk to friends and colleagues about scheduling their annual screening, and consider ways to lower the risk of developing breast cancer by maintaining a healthy weight, eating a nutritious diet, limiting alcohol, exercising 30 minutes a day, and not smoking.

Patients are encouraged to speak with their primary care provider about breast cancer risk factors including age, family history, ethnicity, and genetics.
