POCUS

We are proud to offer enhanced training in point of care ultrasound (POCUS). Through several educational grants to support POCUS training at Northern Light EMMC, we have purchased 6 Butterfly ultrasounds and have a P9 in clinic. In addition, a number of faculty completed a fellowship through the Global Ultrasound Institute. This funding and resources allow us to move toward integration of ultrasound into family medicine residency training. We use handheld and laptop ultrasound units for bedside imaging to augment our physical exam and enhance patient care. We additionally utilize imaging guidance by ultrasound for a wide array of procedures to improve safety. All PGY 1 Residents have a longitudinal dedicated exposure to POCUS to develop foundational skills. Additionally, you may dedicate elective time to POCUS. Ultrasound didactics and workshops are complemented by learning in real-time with patient care. If you’re looking fora pathway to credentialing in point of care ultrasound, we also offer a more intensive experience.
