Wellness at Northern Light EMMC Family Medicine Residency

The wellness curriculum at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency focuses on longitudinal, experiential learning, as well as creating a community of peer support. At EMMC Family Medicine Residency, we incorporate wellness into your daily routine, helping you to identify stressors and find optimal work-life balance.

Dedicated Wellness Didactics

We provide monthly sessions in our didactic conferences with behavioral health faculty to offer space and reinforce strategies for maintaining wellness and balance as a physician.

Retreats

You’ll have the opportunity to participate in two residents retreats each year. In the fall, you’ll take part in an overnight trip with residents and families to help build community, take a break from work, and enjoy Maine’s natural beauty. In the spring, you and the faculty will take part in a one-day retreat to build communication, reinforce the idea of teamwork, and have some fun! We often take advantage of the ropes course at the University of Maine for this retreat.

Half-Day Sessions

We host dedicated quarterly half-day blocks that provide experiential learning of different wellness domains. We recognize that self-care looks different for every resident and aim to provide experiences that meet your needs. For the last three years, this has included a yoga session, mindfulness training, narrative writing, nature walks and hiking, arts and crafts, board games, and culinary medicine, taking advantage of the teaching kitchen at the University of Maine.
