Nancy's Weight Loss Success Story

Nancy, Before
I have struggled with my weight all of my adult life. In March 2017, I was admitted to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for pneumonia and shortness of breath. I weighed 260 lbs.

With these two diagnoses, I was scared I was going to die. I could not breath on my own and could do very little talking without being winded.

I asked Michelle Toder, MD, medical director for Northern Light Surgical Weight Loss, to help me. I knew it was time take care of myself and really focus on my future wellbeing. I went through the Surgical Weight Loss program and had gastric sleeve surgery on November 7, 2017.

At that time, I was taking seven medications and was on a bi-pap machine. Today, 16 months out from surgery, I weigh 170 lbs, and I no longer use a bi-pap machine. I am on just two medications along with vitamins.

I can do activities now that I couldn’t do before. I take the stairs, walk long distances, and play with my puppy without being winded. I have never felt better!
