WATCHMAN

A one-time procedure that effectively reduces the risk of stroke.WATCHMAN-Web.jpg

WATCHMAN offers an alternative to the lifelong use of warfarin for people with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem, also known as non-valvular AFib.

This permanent heart implant effectively reduces the risk of stroke—without the risk of bleeding that can come with the long-term use of warfarin, the most common blood thinner. What’s more, WATCHMAN can eliminate the regular blood tests and food-and-drink restrictions that come with warfarin (also known as Coumadin.)

Safety

WATCHMAN has a proven record of safety. Worldwide, more than 70,000 people have received the WATCHMAN Implant. WATCHMAN has been clinically studied for more than 10 years in the United States. It’s the only implant of its kind approved by the FDA.

How WATCHMAN works

90% of stroke-causing blood clots that come from the heart are formed in the left atrial appendage, or LAA.

At about the size of a quarter, WATCHMAN is implanted into the LAA using minimally invasive technology.

WATCHMAN permanently closes off this part of your heart to keep blood clots from escaping.

WATCHMAN may be ideal for those with jobs or hobbies that may increase the risk of bleeding, such as:

  • Carpenters
  • Outdoorsmen
  • Landscapers and contractors
  • Bikers and runners
  • Fishermen
  • Drivers
