CA Dean Hospital reaches weather tight milestone

With spring right around the corner, Northern Light CA Dean Hospital is celebrating a big milestone in its Modernization Project: the new ambulance and main hospital buildings are now weather tight.

“With the buildings fully closed in and protected from the elements, the construction crew can proceed with wiring, walls, and other interior work,” says Marie Vienneau, FACHE, president, CA Dean Hospital. “Installation of the interior metal framing in the new hospital is already well underway. Our new hospital is really starting to take shape.”

Currently, an average of 25 construction workers are on site each day to move the project into a new phase.

The Modernization Project remains on budget, and renovations to the East Wing building remain on schedule. Due to supply chain issues, the opening of the new hospital, known as the Buck Family Building, has been changed from August 2023 to February 2024. Demolition and landscaping will be complete by the fall of 2024 as originally planned.

“Like many other building projects that started during the pandemic, we have had to work through supply chain challenges, including a delay in receiving equipment for the new hospital’s electrical system,” says Vienneau. “The final end date for the project has not changed, but we will have to wait just a little bit longer to open the new hospital.”

Hospital staff recently were treated to a sneak peek of the hallways and rooms in the building through a virtual video tour created by WBRC, Inc., the project architect.

“It’s amazing to think about far we’ve come since announcing the Buck Family’s generous $4 million gift a year ago, breaking ground on the project last spring, and putting the final steel beam in place last fall,” adds Vienneau. “We’re looking forward to celebrating more milestones in 2023.”
