3D Mammography Comes to Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital

Date: 01/06/2021

Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital is pleased to announce that 3D mammography is now available to the community.  Early detection and accurate diagnosis are the keys to beating breast cancer. Women on the Blue Hill peninsula, Deer Isle, and beyond now have an advantage in both of these critical areas thanks to the addition of the latest in breast health technology at Blue Hill Hospital.  Funds raised through our Starlight Evening “campaign/ virtual toast” and through private donations, have enabled the hospital’s imaging department to purchase this new, state-of-the-art equipment.

Research has shown that digital breast tomosynthesis, better known as 3D mammography, has a higher success rate at detecting invasive breast cancers, and reduces the number of false detections.

“I am so very proud that Blue Hill now offers this service to our local patients,” shares John Ronan, FACHE, president, Blue Hill and Maine Coast Hospitals.  “Our patients deserve exceptional care, provided by a highly skilled team using advanced technology. This advancement plays a critical role in our mission as we continue to improve the health of our community.”

This new technology, is now standard-of-care, explains Natalie Stanley R.T. (R)(M).  “It detects cancer earlier and more accurately, allowing patients to seek further care sooner, if needed.  This will relieve unnecessary stress and anxiety on our patients.”

Blue Hill Hospital is currently scheduling 3D mammography appointments.  Please call your primary care provider with questions or call the Imaging department directly to schedule an appointment at 207.374.3999.
