Financial Assistance Program
It is Acadia Hospital’s policy to treat all patients requiring care without regard for ability to pay and to assist patients in arranging for settlement of their accounting obligation. If your current circumstances make it impossible for you to pay your bill in full, Acadia Hospital has established guidelines for short-term payment plans. You may also apply for the Free Care Program at Acadia Hospital if you meet certain requirements. Under the Free Care Program, medically necessary services will be provided to Maine residents at no cost. If you choose to apply for Free Care, you will be asked if you have insurance of any kind to help pay for your care. You may also be asked to prove that insurance or a government program (i.e. MaineCare) will not pay for your care.
Please keep in mind that other healthcare providers may bill you separately as a result of your treatment here. It is the responsibility of the patient to determine if these providers also offer free care. Acadia Hospital's Free Care Program covers Acadia Hospital bills only.
If you do not qualify for free hospital care, you are entitled to ask for a fair hearing. Contact us for information about applying for a fair hearing.
Below are documents related to the Free Care Program. Please review the guidelines and instructions and fill out the application form if you qualify.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Patient Accounts department at (207) 973-5000 or toll-free at (866) 750-5001.
