Joshua Newman, MD
Joshua Newman, MD, was born and raised in Rochester, New York. He attended the University of Chicago for Undergraduate and Medical School. After receiving his medical degree, he was a psychiatry resident and then a child and adolescent psychiatry fellow at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Newman then worked at the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation for the next 25 years as a child and adolescent psychiatrist and medical director. Dr. Newman and his family moved to Maine in 2015 where his passion for community mental health and teaching found a new home.
His work at Northern Light Acadia Hospital began on the inpatient unit, but has expanded to coordinating medical student teaching, as well as taking on the medical directorship of the child and adolescent inpatient and outpatient programming.
Dr. Newman’s professional interests include service delivery models, the impact of trauma and abandonment on mental health, Autism Spectrum Disorders, clinical informatics, and especially teaching.
Outside work, Dr. Newman enjoys playing tournament bridge, board games, using his telescope, grilling, creative writing, and cheering on his favorite Detroit-based sports teams.
