Charmaine Patel, MD
Dr. Charmaine Patel grew up in New Zealand and moved to Maine during the ice storm of ‘98. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Maine, and her medical degree at the University of Vermont Robert Larner College of Medicine. She completed her Psychiatry Residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center where she was the chief resident in her last year.
On completing her training, Dr. Patel returned to Maine to join Northern Light Acadia Hospital as an inpatient psychiatrist and has served as the medical director of Adult Inpatient Services since 2018. Dr. Patel has an interest in medical education and has received the AADPRT George Ginsberg Fellowship Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Richard A. Bernstein Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Dr. Patel also has interest in physician and trainee wellness and serves as a physician advisor for the Maine Practitioner Health Program. She has various published works on AAMC MedEdPORTAL on the topic of learner mistreatment. Her interests within psychiatry include first episode psychosis, treatment resistant depression, and trauma related disorders.
Outside work, she enjoys being in nature, painting, and listening to podcasts.
