Influenza Precautions in Place at AR Gould Hospital and Continuing Care

Date: 02/27/2019

Presque Isle and Mars Hill, Maine (February 27, 2019) — Northern Light AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle and Northern Light Continuing Care in Mars Hill (formerly the Aroostook Health Center) are increasing precautionary measures and temporarily adjusting the visitation policy due to influenza activity in the area.

“In an effort to protect our hospital patients and our continuing care residents, as well as the family and friends who visit them, we are discouraging visitation at this time,” says Jay Reynolds, MD, Senior Physician Executive.  “Those who cannot avoid coming into either facility will be asked to wear a mask and to wash their hands upon entrance and exit.”

Extra precautions are also in place in the Mars Hill facility, since there has been an outbreak of Influenza A and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).   All resident activities are on hold temporarily, and staff is working to reschedule therapy sessions for outpatients who have respiratory compromise or underlying conditions that would cause them to be more apt to become ill.

“We ask members of the public to please take this precaution into consideration before planning a visit.  It truly is in the best interest of our patients and potential visitors,” stresses Reynolds.
