November is American Diabetes Month. Uncontrolled Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, loss of limbs, and needing dialysis. In combination with high blood pressure and cholesterol, persons with diabetes have a higher chance of having strokes and heart attacks.

You can help manage your diabetes, or even help prevent diabetes by adapting a healthy lifestyle.

Follow a well-balanced diet. Keep active by participating in 30 minutes of physical activity 5 times per week. Take your medications and check your blood glucose as ordered. Make sure to monitor your feet and take care of your oral hygiene. Refrain from smoking, check your blood pressure, get a yearly dilated eye exam and finally, keep your appointments with your provider.
