Northern Light Pharmacy to Transition its Long-Term Care Pharmacy Services to Bangor Drug LTC
After careful consideration, Northern Light Pharmacy has made the decision to sell its Long-Term Care Pharmacy, which services group homes and assisted living facilities throughout Maine. Bangor Drug LTC will purchase the program on September 27, 2019.
Matthew Marston, director, Northern Light Pharmacy, shares, “We are continuously evaluating our business model to ensure the services we offer best meet the needs of our communities and hospitals we serve throughout the state. Currently, the infrastructure and logistics of both our long-term care and our retail operations are very different from one another. This move will allow us to dedicate our full attention toward the growth of our retail and specialty pharmacy lines of business.”
Bangor Drug LTC is well positioned to assume the long-term care operations, Marston said. As a Maine community pharmacy, Bangor Drug LTC has been in the Bangor area for only a year but has a long-standing positive reputation for serving patients as Hebert Rexall Pharmacy in northern Maine. “We believe Bangor Drug LTC will provide the same level of service at comparable pricing,” continued Marston. “They are also able to provide enhanced services, such as multi-dose packaging and cycle fill processing. This service level will undoubtably benefit to our customers, and we are committed to working with Bangor Drug LTC to make this a smooth transition for all parties.”
Currently, 18 team members work with Long-Term Care Pharmacy operations within Northern Light Pharmacy. Members of leadership have been working closely with affected employees to support them through the transition. Marston says, “We are a close-knit group, and our employees are like family. We are fully committed and prepared to assist them through this change. Opportunities to transition to other positions within our system are available, and we are discussing options with them individually.”
Northern Light Pharmacy has steadily expanded their retail pharmacy presence across Maine with their most recent store opening at the Mercy, Fore River Campus in Portland, Maine in 2017. The pharmacy has also expanded the availability of their bedside medication delivery services, specialty pharmacy services across hospital campuses and physician practices of Northern Light Health. Marston added, “We don’t want to just provide our customers with good service, we want their experience to be exceptional. We know there is still work to be done, but by refocusing our business efforts, we hope to be one step closer to providing an exceptional experience for all those that we serve for generations to come. There are tremendous opportunities for growth and to expand greater access to services for our patients across the state. Building strong partnerships with the healthcare providers of the patients that we serve across Northern Light Health will provide our patients with more efficient delivery of services surrounding their medications so that they can focus on what matters most to them.”
Northern Light Pharmacy has already begun to work with the 69 long-term care and group homes it serves statewide to ensure a smooth transition. The transition to Bangor Drug LTC is scheduled to be complete by September 27, 2019.
