Third Year Medical Students
Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is currently contracted with the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) for third-year medical students. We are one of 28 Core Clerkship sites to host these third-year clinical experiences for UNECOM.
We offer two different types of programs: the Traditional Clerkship and the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC). An academic year for all medical students is 48 weeks. There are 7 rotations in the Traditional Clerkship, each being six or twelve weeks long.
During their time with us, students work alongside experienced faculty, interacting with patients daily in areas such as Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, and Psychiatry, where they can start honing their clinical skills. Additional educational trainings offered to students outside of their core rotations include MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior), Suture, and Scrub Trainings, as well as Skills Rodeos and Emotional Intelligence sessions throughout the year.
