Ultrasound examinations use specialized equipment to produce high quality images of structures inside the human body. An ultrasound exam involves using an instrument called a transducer, which sends high frequency sound waves into the body to detects their echoes as they bounce off internal structures. Various body tissues reflect these sounds waves differently. A computer translates this information to generate images of the structures that display on a computer monitor.
Ultrasound is used to examine many parts of the body. These anatomical structures may include the abdomen, gall bladder, thyroid, breast, obstetrics, uterus, ovaries, scrotum, and blood vessels. SVH staff employs the latest technology, providing adjustable monitors and keyboards to ensure ease of exam for our patients as well as safe practices for our ARDMS-registered technologists.
