A Legacy of Support
For a century, our work has been driven by our community healthcare mission, and philanthropy has played an essential role in our ability to care for all who have come through our doors.
More than 75 years ago, James Healy and Joseph Manning made an investment to support the growth and mission of Mercy Hospital. Over the years, their visionary and powerful gift helped make possible the expansion of the State Street hospital, creation of the Fore River I campus, establishment of the cardiology department, and, most recently, philanthropic support of the One Mercy
capital campaign and establishment of a permanent Mercy endowment.
The Mercy community is extraordinarily grateful to the family of Dr. Harry E. Davis, Mercy’s first and longtime chair of pediatrics. Dr. Davis’s daughter, Patricia Klingenstein, together with her husband John and their four children, have made many important gifts to improve healthcare in Maine. Their transformational gift to the One Mercy
campaign is especially personal and honors Portland’s beloved and well-known “Dr. Harry.”
