Coagulation

The Coagulation department at Northern Light Laboratory serves as the primary test site for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Our department is staffed 24 hours/day to handle the needs of clients throughout Eastern, Central and Northern Maine, as well as locations in Southern Maine and Vermont.

Our staff technologists are certified by the ASCP Board of Registry and have completed a thorough training program prior to performing coagulation testing. Annual competency assessment is required of all department employees.

Coagulation testing is complex, requiring in-depth knowledge of a very intricate process whereby the human body balances the substances which cause bleeding and clotting. Accurate testing is accomplished through the use of several unique pieces of equipment, including the BCS-XP analyzer for automated analysis of plasma samples and the PFA-100 analyzer for whole blood analysis of platelet function.
