Donors show their "Love for Lakewood"
On November 12, Northern Light Continuing Care, Lakewood supporters from Maine and beyond shared their "Love for Lakewood" by generously donating to the facility's very first Day of Giving.
The event was a resounding success thanks to Lakewood’s generous donors as well as a dedicated planning committee and team of social media ambassadors. Love for Lakewood raised approximately $25,000 to purchase tandem wheelchair bicycles for residents and fund a bright, beautiful outdoor oasis, which will provide a "home away from home" right on the Lakewood campus.
“Many folks have adopted the practice of looking at their own home and how they can have their own oasis—a perpetual vacation," says Patty Shuck, RN, director of nursing at Lakewood (seen in photo). "We’re looking at every opportunity that we can to create our own oasis here."
These outdoor activities will be more important than ever in 2021 as residents continue to experience isolation due to COVID-19. In 2020, they were unable to enjoy their annual trip to the coast and other community activities due to the pandemic.
Donations for Love for Lakewood came from as far away as Connecticut. Continuing Care, Lakewood and the Continuing Care, Lakewood Foundation are grateful for every donor’s support of this unique virtual event.
