Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Lights of Life tree lighting brings community together
Dozens of people gathered at the Lafayette Family Cancer Institute on Thursday evening December 5 to remember and celebrate friends and family impacted by cancer.
Individuals were able to purchase tree lights in honor or memory of loved ones, and the cancer institute lobby featured beautiful posters featuring the names of those being recognized. The evening began with holiday songs performed by the Brewer High School chorus, led by Heather MacLeod.
The formal portion of the evening featured Northern Light EMMC Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer welcoming those in attendance and speaking to the significance of the annual event. He was followed by Northern Light Cancer Care Medical Director Sigrid Berg, MD, who shared her personal observations about Lights of Life and the meaning it holds for her.
The highlight of the evening was the tree lighting, which occurred after all those in attendance moved outside to the institute’s front circle drive. Lights of Life was able to $20,000 This year, with all proceeds going towards supporting the care being provided to individuals living with cancer.
