#ChildrensHospitalsWeek celebrates specialized care for kids
To shine a light on the importance of specialized, high quality healthcare for Maine kids, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, is participating in the third annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek, scheduled for March 18-24.
The week-long celebration recognizes everyone who supports children’s healthcare provided at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and eight other Northern Light hospitals. In 2018, more than $500,000 was raised through the generosity of thousands of people who rounded up their change at the cash register, held fundraising events, and donated directly to the cause. Partners include Walmart, Sam’s Club, Dairy Queen, Log a Load for Maine Kids, Circle K, Credit Unions for Kids, Ace Hardware, and Re/Max. University of Maine and John Bapst High School students also raise money each year by holding dance marathons.
Funds raised benefit local kids like Ellie, who at the age of four was diagnosed with orbital rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancerous eye tumor. Ellie endured six months of chemotherapy, and today she’s a happy, healthy nine-year-old. More than 50,000 kids were treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in 2018.
