Education

“The adventure of life is to learn. The purpose of life is to grow. The nature of life is to change. The challenge of life is to overcome. The essence of life is to care. The opportunity of life is to serve. The secret of life is to dare. The spice of life is to befriend. The beauty of life is to give.”

William Arthur Ward

Northern Light Health has a long tradition in scholarly pursuits. The first class of nurses finished their training in 1894 at what was then known as Bangor General Hospital. Now a statewide integrated health system, we train healthcare workforce members across the spectrum of medicine. Collaborating with institutions of higher learning and industry leaders in Maine and around the globe, Northern Light is a home for cutting edge clinical research providing needed care the people of Maine. As the flagship, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center serves as a hub for education and research, including sponsoring our graduate education programs, coordinating rotations for medical, nursing, and pharmacy students, housing a public library that has access to numerous clinical resources, and supporting three research centers covering many disciplines.

Education and research both are founded in the known and exploration of the unknown. We proudly strive to better our understanding of health, well-being and the art of medicine. By sharing knowledge we improve the lives of or communities.
