#ChildrensHospitalsWeek celebrates specialized care for kids

Date: 03/17/2019

To shine a light on the importance of specialized, high quality healthcare for Maine kids, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Acadia Hospital, and seven other Northern Light hospitals are participating in the third annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek, scheduled for March 18-24.

Ellie-1.jpgIn 2018, more than $500,000 was raised through the generosity of thousands of people who rounded up their change at the cash register, held fundraising events, and donated directly to the cause. Partners include Walmart, Sam’s Club, Dairy Queen, Log a Load for Maine Kids, Circle K, Credit Unions for Kids, Ace Hardware, and Re/Max. University of Maine and John Bapst High School students also raise money each year by holding dance marathons.

Funds raised benefit local kids like Ellie, who at the age of four was diagnosed with orbital rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancerous eye tumor.

There are several ways to get involved in #ChildrensHospitalsWeek:

  • Wear a bandage. Show your support for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by wearing a bandage of your choice, taking a photo, and sharing it with the #ChildrensHospitalsWeek and #NorthernLightHealth hashtags. You can even write the name of a child you know who has benefitted.
  • Follow Eastern Maine Medical Center Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals on social media.
  • Tune into a Live-athon – On Wednesday, March 20, at 8 pm tune into an exciting live event featuring appearances by various celebrities and of course, the Champions; 10 kids who represent the 10 million kids treated annually at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada.
