Date: 10/15/2024

Northern Light Mercy Hospital is pleased to announce that Michelle Haslinger, MD, a board-certified breast surgical oncologist with expertise in oncoplastic surgery, has joined Northern Light Mercy Breast Care.

Dr. Haslinger was born and raised in Buffalo, NY where she completed medical school and general surgery residency. She subsequently completed one year of plastic surgery fellowship training at University of Colorado, Denver followed by breast surgical oncology fellowship training at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

She began the early part of her surgical career with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle, WA.  She was subsequently recruited by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts to be the Director of Oncoplastic Surgery and Instructor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, an exciting career opportunity which also brought her back to her east coast roots. Dr. Haslinger, a compassionate and meticulous surgeon with a devoted commitment to her patients, joined Northern Light Mercy Hospital to help support the greater Portland community.

As an avid and driven triathlete, Maine is a perfect fit for her love of the outdoors and her hobbies of swimming, cycling, and running. She has run several marathons, competed in the Ironman World Championships, and qualified for the 129th Boston Marathon. She loves to travel the world and visit her family in her hometown of Buffalo where she can enjoy her favorite pastimes: eating wings and cheering on her Buffalo Bills football team.

Dr. Haslinger’s unique skill set incorporates cancer removal with various techniques to repair the lumpectomy defect in breast conservation candidates, as well as symmetry surgery for the opposite breast when appropriate. This allows optimal cosmetic outcomes that help patients complete their healing journey feeling whole, beautiful, and mentally strengthened.
