Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and its staff of more than 450 physicians provide three-quarters of the primary-care services in the Bangor area, specialty and intensive services and is a level II trauma center.


We are a host for Lifeflight of Maine, we provide outreach and support to local hospitals throughout Maine and serve as a resource for physicians, patients, and healthcare students.

This position offers a generous compensation package and $10,000.00* sign on bonus with a work commitment.

POSITION SUMMARY:Under the leadership of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manageris responsible for daily operations of the nursing unit. Able to provide ageappropriate nursing care and serve as a resource to the units' patientpopulation. Must be adaptable to a fast-paced ever-changing environment. Astrong team player. Must possess exemplary customer service skills anddemonstration consistent use of EMMC caring behaviors. Ability to communicatewell with all members of the healthcare team. Must project a professional imageat all times. Responsible for holding staff accountable in maintainingcompliance with CMS Conditions of Participation and Joint Commission Standards.Must have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and be ademonstrated team player. Must demonstrate reliability and accountability toteam members and patients.

SUPERVISES: Anycombination of the following positions: Clinical Educator, Staff Nurse II,Staff Nurse I, Staff Nurse, Registered Nurse, Unit Secretary, Certified NurseTechnician, Patient Observer, and other positions that are required to meet theoperation demands of the department.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure asa registered nurse in Maine. Baccalaureate in Nursing (BSN) required. Mustobtain a Neuro/Ortho/Stroke Certification within one year.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: BLS. At least 3 years nursingexperience. Leadership in a formal leadership role or evidenced by stronginformal leadership qualities and skills. Demonstrates strong clinical skills.Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills, teamwork, andorganizational skills. Effective collaborative, problem solving skills. Abilityto manage customer complaints and staff issues effectively; develop and managenursing staff competency requirements; and assist in the development andmaintenance of departmental directives that relate to nursing process andprocedure. Ability to complete a comprehensive age specific nursing care to thepopulation of patients within the assigned unit/area. Flexibility with workhours and activities in response to unit needs.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES/SKILLS: Must possess visual acuity, hearing acuity,verbal skills, and command of the English language necessary to communicatewith patients, families, physicians, external agencies and staff at all levelsin the organization. Must possess manualdexterity for use of computer systems.Ability to communicate in an effective and hospitable manner in personand by phone. Flexibility with workhours and activities in response to department needs. Must possess basic computer skills. Must have ability to identify own learningneeds; to work independently; recognize need for assistance and seek it in atimely manner; to prioritize work responsibilities; work efficiently in theface of a variety of changing requests and demands on time; build supportiverelationships with co-workers and participate in 360 evaluations of staffmembers performance; and concentrate in a busy and often stressfulenvironment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Capacity to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment.Ability to come in close contact with people. Sitting, and extended periods ofstanding and walking are required. Stretchers, monitors, pumps are movedseveral times a day to accommodate patient and equipment transfers. The nursemust be able to life 10 lbs. with one hand to attach IV pumps to IV poles.Reaching and stretching may be required at any time. Ability to push and pullheavy computers on wheels; push wheelchairs with 300+ pound patients,frequently lifting 50 pounds without assistance; high volume of stooping, bending,lifting, pulling, and twisting. The nurse must be able to stretch, reach, andretrieve equipment from the supply carts of bend to reach equipment suppliedbelow knee level. Must possess upper body strength, agility and lung capacitynecessary to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and have the ability to wearequipment and to pass fit testing. Portable O2 tanks are lifted from O2 racksto stretchers to accompany patients.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Fast paced clinical environment;multiple demands occurring simultaneously all requiring leadership anddirection. Must have a high level ofinterpersonal and communication skills and be a demonstrated team player. Must demonstrate reliability andaccountability to team members and patients.

Must be able to perform various sensory requirements such asvisual and color acuity, speech, smell, touch, manual dexterity, fine motorskills and hearing in order to assess and treat the patient accurately.

Use of the electronic medical record requires visual acuityfor reading information on computer screens and fine motor skills for keyboardingand use of a mouse.
