Responsible for one on one direct, continuous observation for the purpose of injury prevention of patients who might be at high risk. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and in accordance with department policies and procedures, responsible for keeping the patient in his/her line of vision at all times and working with others in the healthcare team to assure prompt intervention to prevent physical harm to patients ensuring optimal patient safety and patient comfort.Responsibilities: Essential duties of this role require time spent sitting or walking while closely observing a patient, documenting, and collaborating with other health care staff members for an assigned shift. The employee must possess the core competencies of self-management, collaboration, initiative flexibility and motivation, i.e. staff must be willing to accept changes in assignment as needed. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned. Education/ Training: A High School Graduate or G.E.D. Related experience is desired. Skills & Abilities: Must possess good oral and written communication skills in the English language; patient centered care philosophy; strong team player. Able to function as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team. Follows safety procedures to prevent injury to self and others.Physical Demands:Visual acuity, color vision, hearing acuity, and tactile sensation are necessary to respond to patient response and requests. Must possess the manual dexterity and a degree of body strength and flexibility to respond to aggressive patient behavior. The ability to reach and stretch intermittently. Time may be spent sitting at a computer, collaborating with other healthcare team members. Standing and walking comprises some of the workday.
